(Re)thinking Allyship: Inherited pasts and Complicit presents?
An Intersectional Anti-Racism Workshop
Facilitated by : Nomaswazi Mthombeni
The participatory, reflective, and action-oriented workshop (Re)thinking Allyship: Inherited pasts and complicit presents? invites participants to critically rethink allyship through an intersectional and anti-racist lens. It will examine how racism is bound up with patriarchy, capitalism, queerphobia, transphobia, ableism, and other systems of oppression; and reflect on how these operate in our communities, our movements, and our everyday lives. Through reflection, dialogue, and interactive exercises, participants will also reflect on practices of accountability and the ways in which we can actively work together to create more just futures. Given this, the workshop will:
Examine how historical inequalities shape present-day realities and interpersonal dynamics.
Reflect on positionality, privilege, and complicity.
Explore strategies for collective care, accountability, and anti-racist praxis in our communities
Deliberate on what it means to move beyond performative allyship and toward meaningful, transformative engagement.
This workshop is open to all who want to learn, unlearn, and actively contribute to building more just, inclusive, and liberated communities. Please make sure you register beforehand by sending an email to [email protected]
